I have just joined this forum.
I can claim no direct Scottish heritage that I know of but I have good "celtic" blood from Ireland on both sides.
My connection or association with Scotland is with clan MacLeod. This arose because I spent nearly all my growing up years in a suburb of Melbourne called Macleod. I went to Macleod primary school and Macleod secondary school.
The school motto is that of clan MacLeod - "Hold Fast". The Latin wording is "Murus Aheneus Esto" which translated literally means "Be thou a bronze wall"!. The school badge has the clan motto in both English and Latin, the lions and an image of Dunvegan Castle. Our school magazine is called "Dunvegan" and the founding school patron is Dame Flora MacLeod of Skye who visited the school. We used to have ceilidhs at school.
I have felt the call of the Scots for a long time. I love the pipes. I will visit Skye and Dunvegan Castle this June. I hope to pay my respects to the Chief of Clan MacLeod.I do not know if it is possible to become an honorary member of the clan but I will ask about that then.
And of course I intend to wear the kilt.
I look forward to my time here.
Best regards to all
David
