Greetings from Croydon
Hello!
I’m English, living in the very south of Greater London, although with excellent transport links to the centre. I’ve got a French surname, but my family is thoroughly English and I was brought up in Devon. (Both my grandmothers had Cornish connections, which is my only claim to Celtic blood.)
I suddenly got a yen to try a kilt and went to the Highland Shop in Great Russell Street, just opposite the British Museum.
I ordered a made-to-measure 8 yard kilt as a Christmas present to myself in Black Watch tartan. (I didn’t want to be pretentious pretending to be a clan member. Instead I’m being pretentious pretending to be an ex-soldier. Ah well, I like the sober colouring of the tartan.)
I tried it on when it was ready and determined to wear it home. I first went for a walk round the British Museum and discovered what women must have known for years: the hot air from the under floor heating goes up your legs.
I’ve been so pleased I’ve bought a budget 2 yard Black Spirit kilt for gardening.
I might be along later for advice on a third kilt.

Thanks for the welcome, mates. I'm sitting here in my kilt with a warm glow to hear from you all. (Mind you I did chicken out of wearing my kilt to the street market this afternoon. That's an ambition I must work up to. Er, to which I must work up. Going out fully kilted a week ago when the weather was near freezing was exciting.
Does anyone know Kilts4All, makers of made to measure kilts in London http://www.kilts4all.com/our-showroom.html ?
Their English kilt looks a bit off, to my mind.

And a big hello from south of you in romsey Hampshire , although temporarily in Malta on hols. As previously stated try and get to Harpenden in July it's a good day out and many of us will be there.
Don't forget with your Cornish connections there is a Cornish tartan. You could quite rightly wear that one.
