Greetings from Germany
Hello all!
as far as I know my ancestors are from Germany, Sweden and Finland, but very likely not from Scotland, unfortunately. I grew up in Germany, and I'm still living there, my mother is from Finland (her maiden name was a Swedish surname).
This year in summer I got my first kilt, I had bought it second-hand from a private seller at Ebay. Unfortunately it is a bit too small/short for me, but it has got such a wonderful swing. When I put on for the first time I just instantly fell in love with wearing a kilt, it was such a magical moment.
I didn't have much luck with my second kilt either, but this time qualitywise.
In Germany at least 90% of all people haven't got a clue about kilts and wouldn't even notice how terrible that kilt is, but even so I felt horrible about wearing this kilt when I was kilted in public for the first time.
Would the General Kilt Talk subforum be the right place to „introduce“ my kilts? I don't really want to write a novel-length post as my introduction, and there's quite a lot to tell about those first kilts.
I need to ask someone to take some photos of me. I haven't got a really good photo of myself yet where I'm kilted, here's just a glimpse of me on my first night out in a kilt, including the most horrible sash I can imagine. (I will still present close-up photos of that sash, then you will know what I mean.) Luckily the light was dim.

At least I've got two decent kilt jackets by now, they are ex-hire jackets that I bought at Ebay.

Welcome from a Scotsman living in the English midlands. Hope you're successful in finding a kilt of a more suitable length.

Well met and welcome from Oxford, Mississippi. I'm glad you are enjoying your kilts. The experience gets better as the quality of your attire improves. A kilt that fits you correctly is an excellent sensation.
Since you have been in kilted public already you have cleared a hurdle that halts most new members. I suggest that you take your time and obtain a proper kilt that fits you and your tastes. I look forward to hearing from you between now and that day. Glad to have you with us.

Thanks for the warm welcome!

Here you can see my cats, they are half-brothers.
They tend to occupy my chair (mostly only one of them at a time, luckily), not leaving much room for me to sit on there.

I'm glad to hear you love Germany. In which area did you live?
I grew up in Northrhine-Westphalia and lived in several cities there, but also five years in Karlsruhe and in England for a year (in Buckinghamshire), by now I am back in my hometown.

I'm sure it is, and I'm looking forward to that...

A few people on the street were staring at me, I'm sure that had nothing to do with the bad quality of the kilt but with the fact that it is very rare to see kilted men in Germany.
