Greetings from the Great Pacific North Wet (not a typo) Slainte'

New to the board but not new to kilts, I've been wearing the kilt off and on since about 1978. I have 7, although there might be 2 or 3 more buried in storage, they probably don't fit anymore anyway.

I have been involved in the SCA and other organizations since 1975. During the early 80's until the mid 90's, I had my own re-creation Highland Regiment within the SCA in the Pacific NW. We not only did these events but mundane parades and other events as well, once serving as an Honor Guard to the Governor of Oregon and during her State Visit to Seattle, in 1983 I think it was, too long ago to remember exactly, we served as Honor Guard for Queen Elizabeth's walk through Downtown Seattle. In 1989, while attending another Pipe Band Tour performance by the Black Watch, the incoming Pipe Major, Alec Brown, made me an unofficial Honorary Member of the Regiment. ( I guess I partied with them too much on previous and then subsequent tours)
I've worked primarily in Law Enforcement for almost 30 years in various agencies from federal to local. I never could get them to let me wear my kilt to work though.

My interests include Military history, heraldry, equestrian activities, medieval combat, historical and science fiction costuming and props building and collecting too much stuff. I've recently mostly finished a series of historical 19th century British Uniforms for my collection. Some still need a little more detailing and accessories. Napoleonic Era Royal Navy Post Captain full dress, Waterloo Era Generic Infantry Officers Coatee, Crimean War Hussars uniform, post Crimean 17th Lancers uniform. The Highland Officers Doublet in my Avatar was made for the Queens State visit in 1983, based on the 1900 Officers pattern dress regulations book in my collection. One of the next future project will be 2 Royal Scots Greys uniforms from Waterloo for myself and my lady.

    Welcome to the "Great Rabble!"

With your experience, you'll be able to help out other newer kilt-wearers, but maybe you'll get a bit of perspective too, and certainly some good fellowship.

What's the SCA? In an international forum like this, we don't know one-another's local acronyms so it's better to spell it out. With the great number of American members here, you fellows are the worst for that - Americans seem to think that the rest of the world knows and uses the same acronyms you do.

Glad you're here, and looking forward to all the pictures too!

    from Scotland.

I am now retired but worked in law enforcement as a legally qualified Court Assessor and often wore a black kilt in Court.

    Sca

    Welcome, Nightowl,
I am new here too. I'm in Boise, Idaho which is past the dry side of Oregon. I have a history with the SCA as well. For those who are unfamiliar, the SCA is the Society for Creative Anachronism, a medieval/ early Renaissance reenactment group with chapters throughout the USA and internationally.

    Thank you

Hello to all and thank you for the welcome. Father Bill, I believe McNeil gave the short easy answer to your question on what is the SCA. It can be a lot more involved than that, as we also do research and will come to schools and teach classes when we are requested, about what the real world was like during the Middle Ages and Renaissance, nothing like the movies and TV. I thought I'd add a quick collage with some of my uniform creations that I made up a while ago. Again, thank you to all.
