Greetings kilted ones.
I have asked a couple of questions and tried to get a feel for this forum already but sofar I haven't introduced myself.
My name is Jacob. I am 18 and have lived in the same house in Salem, Oregon my entire life. I don't really have a direction in my life yet but I am looking into the idea of some sort of metallurgy or applied material science degree.
My mothers side of the family (Gibson) is somewhat spread out and I know very few of them. My fathers side, which has ties to Stuart of Bute, is much closer (geographicly and personally) and we even have a family reunion every year in december (there are like 12 birthdays in december in the family going back to my grandfathers generation with his siblings and their families).
We suspect that I may have a very mild form of Asperger Syndrome (a form of autism), though we have never had the need to get a diagnosis, we just found a asperger site one day and was like "whoa, thats me" in true Keanu Reaves fashion. Some of the traits of "AS" I show and others and viturally nonexistant. One of those traits is obsesive interests. As such I have taken interests in maille, khukuris, swords, various computer games, sciroccos, and now kilts. I still have an active interest in all of the above with the exception of some computer games.
My interest in kilts stems from randomly finding utilikilts a couple of years ago. Since then I have asked around the family and found the clan relations above. I really need to talk to my uncle who did some geneology several years back. If I ever get a sgian dubh I will probably make it myself due to my maille/khukuri/sword interest that has prompted me to build a forge. I found kilts right around this years Portland Highland Games, but was out of town that weekend for a smithing class in Oakland CA. Depending on how quickly I can get a kilt I may just be wearing one to the Shrewsbery Ren Faire (theme is victorian era, so kilts would be tailored at the time, I think).
You can find me posting at swordforum.com and lurking at www.bladeforums.com in the himalayan-imports section.

Welcome lad.
You'll find kilts and genealogy both addictive. Enjoy, AS or not
Get after that uncle for the info.
