Greetings from Largo, Florida
Hello Everyone,
I am very pleased to join your ranks. I have been looking into the forum for a couple weeks and joined about a week ago.
My name is Paul. I live in Largo, Florida, USA. I hate the summer heat, but my wife and I were sent here by Providence.
I don't have a kilt as of yet. I do look forward to it, and would have one tomorrow, but it is going to be a hard sell for SWMBO. Any useful suggestions for winning over the heart and mind of unwilling wives to the brethren of the kilt would be greatly appreciated.
My ancestral heritage is about like this:
Scottish 50%
Irish 35%
English 10%
Cherokee 10%
Mystery 05%
I was once a knife maker and used to post pictures and youtube videos on knifemaking forums with regularity. However, I've not done that in about 5 years. So, I've yet to get back up to speed in that regard. I'm going to google some youtube tutorials on doing so before I try again.
At any rate, I am quite glad to be here and hope to get to know some of you as time passes.
Wishing you all success, good health, and happiness, I remain, yours truly,
Paul of Pinellas

Welcome from a Scotsman living in the English midlands. My wife likes the "look" of the kilt, but feels it is rather conspicuous outside of Scotland. She is reasonably OK with me wearing it north of the Scottish border, but not elsewhere. So I can't really provide the answer to your dilemma - perhaps other members will help?!

Welcome to the "Great Rabble"!
I had that problem initially, but I think it has slowly petered out. It takes time.

Love that quote, Liam. So very true!
I reminds me of a Mark Twain quote:
"It has been my experience that when a man with money meets a man with experience,
The man with the money ends up with experience and the man with experience ends up with the money."
Since he said "It has been my experience," I must derive that was indeed the voice of experience.

In may case, it was a somewhat gradual process.
My wife and I had attended our local Celtic Festival for a couple of years when I told her I'd like to purchase one at the festival. By then she had seen other men wearing them at the festival, so she went for it. She was always OK with me wearing it to Celtic-themed events. Then last year, St. Patrick's Day happened to fall on a Sunday, and I said I was going to wear it to church. After all, St. Patrick was originally from present-day Scotland. She reluctantly agreed. I received so many compliments and favorable comments that she has had no problem with it since. She is now onboard with me buying more, which I shall be doing going forward. So take hope!!!

Greeting from Clearwater, FL - just up the road (and down the road from Palm Harbor; looks like we've got the makings of a Pinellas County Contingent here). I can only assume that we've all crossed paths somewhere in Dunedin
If you want my advice, get a nice but inexpensive kilt and try it out.
When the pubs are open again we three should have a pint.
At a time like this one must ask themselves, 'WWJDD"
What Would Jimmy Durante Do?
