Greetings from Lower Alabama!
Ok, long time lurker, first time poster!
I've been interested in Kilts for years, lurked here off and on for many months, and finally bit the bullet and signed up.
I don't have a kilt yet, but hope to acquire one soon. But I HAVE been bitten by the bug. The wife knew of my interest, and "surprised" me a few weeks ago with (gasp) a costume Irish kilt for our annual trip to the Irish-Italian parade in New Orleans. Not wanted to hurt her feelings, I wore it..... And it was so much fun that now I'm determined to "go legit" and get a real kilt! :-)
Tartan fascinates me - problem is, despite family lore about our Scottish ancestry, I have yet to be able to conclusively prove it - thus not sure IF I'm attached to any particular Tartan, or which it might be. I know its not really a "rule" anymore, but still, I'd like to know if I have any real attachment to any recognized group - Scottish or Irish.
I've got Wilson's in Kentucky as far back as the late 18th century, and Thompson's in Alabama and Georgia even longer. But I suppose that's a subject for a different thread.
Obviously, I have all the Newbie questions, but I promise to use the Search feature and try to find the answers already posted!
Kindest Regards!
Tom

Tom: Welcome from the mountains of northern New Mexico! I hope you enjoy the XMTS forum, and discover your Scottish ancestry. You don't live near Bluebell, do you?
John
I changed my signature. The old one was too ridiculous.
