    Greetings from Northern California

Hey all! I'm Paul, although most call me "Wiz" or "Wizard" due to a certain knack for pro audio, tech theatre, general problem solving, improvisation and the like.

After years of wanting a Kilt and a distinct, severe lack of funds... I stumbled upon Stillwater Kilts. (Three cheers for Jerry?) As many do, I purchased a Thrifty Kilt, mine in the Gordon Tartan. BUT only after meticulously and repeatedly measuring myself, with my Tailors tape. I think I'm up to about 3-4 days each week, that I wear my Kilt out of the house. (I'm getting there, don't hate).

As my profile reads, I'm Gordon on my mother's side, dad's side is nothing but filthy Vikings. Hence the username ;-) My dear bride of nearly 20 years, is likely my biggest fan. She's thrilled that I wear one now and on occasion, wears the matching "Ladies Sash", also purchased from Jerry. I have a pic... someplace.

The city I live in, is in the "greater" San Francisco Bay Area. Out here in the 'burbs, it's not very common to see any Kilted men, at all. in fact, about town, I seem to be the only one. Met of a lot of nice folks and actually have yet to experience any negative remarks. I'm sure my time is coming, though, lol. Now, IN SF is a different story. My first outing, in public, wearing my Kilt, was at a large event, with an estimated 1.5 million people in attendance. I received numerous compliments, met about a dozen or so fellow wearers... and even got my tush pinched. Still not sure if the pincher was male, female, animal, mineral or vegetable. All this without a Sporran. Sacrilege, I know, I know... at the time I could simply not afford one. Since, I've purchased 2.

Due to finances, I've improvised my own belt and Sporran suspenders and for now am perfectly happy with wearing black 8" high "tactical/combat" style boots. Since I was lucky enough to catch a "Nighstalker" Sporran, in stock :0 it all blends, fairly well.

Joining up, here, made sense. During my research and subsequent mental wanderings, I kept ending up in this forum. Apparently I've become the "Kilt Authority" amongst local strangers I meet as well as my friends. (Scary, yes I know) Just yesterday I got in a mild argument with a buddy of mine, who wants to get his first Kilt. He insisted that he HAS to wear it on his hips and wasn't interested in my repeated statements about wearing it at the waist! I think I got my point across when I told him that if her wore the Thrifty Kilt he wants to buy, on his hips, the bottom hem would hit him at the ankles! (Given his height).

Oh, I also ramble. That's all for now, take care.

And based on your choice of tartan and kilt, you seem like a sensible guy so, yes, joining XMTS was the right thing to do.

We look forward to your rambling with the rabble.

Simon Fraser fought as MacShimidh, a Highland chief… wrapped and belted in a plaid over the top of his linen shirt, like his ordinary kinsmen. He put a bonnet on his head, and stuck the Fraser emblem, a sprig of yew, in it. With the battle cry, A'Chaisteal Dhunaidh and the scream of the pipes, they charged to battle.
