Greetings from Pittsburgh
Just a quick stop to say hello, as suggested in the welcome message. Not yet a kilt wearer (or owner, even), but have always been keen on the idea, and am now actively researching and "window-shopping". After my dad passed suddenly last year, my outlook on a lot of things has changed significantly, and I'm now solidly in the "who cares what anyone thinks, as long as I'm happy" camp. Having never, EVER, worn anything at my natural waist, and being a "gentleman of substance", as well, the whole thing is pretty foreign, so I'm currently toying with the idea of getting an inexpensive Stillwater to see if I'll even enjoy wearing one, before making any kind of substantial investment. I've actually been lurking around here off-and-on for years, but look forward to investing some more serious time to it. Thanks to you all for the wealth of information that you've amassed here. It's appreciated more than you probably know.

Welcome from a Scotsman living in the English midlands. I think you're right to opt for an expensive kilt to see if you enjoy wearing it, before spending heavily. Good to see that you've been absorbing info. from X-marks - you should be able to make a well-informed choice.

Well met and welcome new friend. I started with a cheaper "utility style" tartan kilt to learn. I soon got a better quality, heavier wool kilt and intend to get more. I have a long term plan (due to being poor) for a small "in number but" permanent wardrobe. I have a good many accessories though.
Size of the person is a simple problem of adjustments where a kilt is concerned. Unlike slacks, a kilt is easier to put on than, "one leg at a time" and more comfortable to wear.
Glad to have you with us.
