Greetings from the Redneck Riviera (NW Florida, USA)
Greetings all!
I got my first kilt about a month ago, a Sport Kilt. I was expecting jeers from the locals around here. Even though I'm wearing it in a most casual way (barefoot in a flip-flop town), I was pleasantly surprised to get compliments. I have decided that I want to wear a kilt whenever I must wear something. I don't want to wear the same thing every time I go into town, so I've ordered a utility kilt. Next will likely be one of the "universals" or Navy, or similar.
I have not yet been able to connect the dots across the Atlantic with the Boyd clan, but hope to do so. The AncestryDNA site confuses the dickens out of me. I'll eventually get a nicer kilt with the Boyd tartan. I plan to read much of this forum's posts before that happens, though.
So much learnin' to do

Greetings from Long Beach, CA! Sport Kilt was also my "gateway" kilt, and I wear mine with flip flops in hot weather.

Welcome from Colorado.
Most ancestry DNA testing results are simply a comparison of your DNA and the DNA of other people who have taken their tests. As this is the case, the more they can compare the better refined the results, and many update information on previous tests as they get more information. Thankfully there are thousands to millions of peoples results that i can be compared to. As clan Boyd claims descent from Walter fitz Alan who died in 1177 there is a good chance that the results will show Great Brittan, Broadly Northern European, or simply Broadly Northern European. The Y DNA haplogroup might tell more about the family history, though there have been a variety of different haplogroups found for Boyd.

Hello!
Where in the Panhandle are you located? I'm originally from Orlando and spent many years in Tallahassee. So I definitely know the Redneck Riviera.
Oddly enough, Boyd is also my tartan. It's my mother's maiden name (the Scots were her side of the family, Dad's people were Vikings way back when). I'm working overseas now (China), but our house in Florida is the old Boyd homestead in Clermont. I'm the 4th generation to own the house.
The Boyd tartan isn't particularly old, but it is very pretty--a nice arrangement of red and green. I have a good 5-yard kilt in it from Scotweb.
Welcome to X Marks,
Andrew

Thanks for the warm welcomes.
This computer forgot my familytreedna passwords, but I have them stored elsewhere. I think I went for the Y-DNA67 package, but it was a couple of years ago. I remember thinking that I was in the most common Haplogroup on the chart.
I'll try to get back on it in 2018 along with my Grandfather's research.
