Greetings from San Bernardino!
Hello, all! I came across this site accidentally while researching another subject totally unrelated to kilts; I suspect serendipity! I was probably the only French Canadian child in my Connecticut hometown in the fifties with a fixated case of Anglophilia; I would attend early mass at my Catholic church, and then sneak into the local Episcopal service because they spoke "English" English there! I've always had a love for all things Celtic and Anglo-Saxon and even Germanic! I've always regretted that my own French-Canadian background didn't include clans and tartans and kilts. Now (after a period of medical upheaval when I was near death) I've discovered that affiliation of the heart is as legitimate as affiliation of the blood! I bought my first kilt on ebay (a plain black one) and I've been wearing it to church, which has gotten me more attention than this old guy knows what to do with!!! Anyway, I've been reading here like crazy, and you all seem like a GREAT group of people! I'm happy I found you! A question I have is: Are there any other occasions (besides church) where it would be appropriate (or acceptable) to wear the kilt? I'll close now, saying again how VERY HAPPY I am to have discovered this site and all of you! God willing, I hope to be an active member!
Best wishes
Laurence

Welcome to the group. You will find a lot of good information here about kilts and how to wear them. As to where you can wear them my opinion will be somewhat biased. I wear one most of the time. Wearing them to work is limited to special occasions and maybe casual Friday. Other than that anything else is fair game. Going to a concert? I wear the kilt. Running errands on Saturday, I wear the kilt. I have to put on something so it may as well be a kilt.

from Reno, NV. I wear my kilt any time I'm not at work. I did start by just wearing it for special occasions, date night with the wife, going to the symphony, parties. Have fun.

Welcome, from Inverness-shire. If it helps you, I only go to church(sometimes kilted) for weddings and funerals and only attend out of a sense of duty, but I do and have, for over three score years and ten worn the kilt regularly for just about any normal-----forget parachuting and bungie jumping though-----event you might care to think of. Just so you know, before you get too carried away, wearing the kilt to church for any kind of service in one branch of the Scottish Christian world is very much frowned upon. Have fun!

Well met Laurence. I've had the urge to dress differently than my working clothes (jeans, boots, tool belt, etc) on many occasion during my decades as a land surveyor. On days off, I would wear a suit for no reason except to feel different in comfortable attire. Now is the kilt for me and the feeling it leaves in my mind, heart and soul as well as the impression on others that I meet. I'm not a daily kilt wearer, but it is as easy as blindly choosing a shirt from the closet, socks from the dresser or shoes from the rack. My kilts hang next to my slacks and jackets. When choosing my outfit, I let my hand stray where it will, any day, for any whim. Welcome from Oxford, MS.

Welcome from Delaware, the "other" coast.
I got my first kilt about two and a half years ago and now have several. I find that I am comfortable wearing one just about any time and anywhere. (Except today because I plan to ride one of my bikes about 100 miles for lunch. )
