    Greetings from West Texas

Hi everyone from humid West Texas. And that's an oxymoron considering we are coming out of a 4-year drought.

I don't know why it has taken me so long to get excited about my Scottish heritage. My ancestors are from Peebleshire and Roxbourghshire, Scotland from my paternal grandfather and maybe I'm also Scots on my paternal grandmother's side: Masters and Dixon respectively. That would be from the Buchanan and Keith clans according to my web searches.

I'm hoping I can find more definitive information here. Not with saying, how much I'd enjoy wearing an official kilt from My clan.

If that isn't enough connection I will claim my wife's families from Ireland: the Moore, Hamilton; and the Gardiner clan from Scotland.

Which tartan should I go for for my first Kilt?
    Steve Masters
My clans: sept of Buchanan, Keith/Dixon. My districts: Roxburghshire and Peebleshire. My wife's clans: Hamilton, Moore, Gardiner. Lederhosen-ed ancestry on my Mother's side.

Well met new friend. If you have looked at the tartan selections (based on the names you've presented) I can see how the choice is tough. The other information you offered gives me this suggestion. If there is Irish mingled into your Scottish roots, there is a way to celebrate both cultures (in your case.)
I think the Hamilton Green Hunting would be a good for the green of the Irish and an earthy, simple design that will work with evening and day wear options. Here is the tartan (from Scottish Tartan Authority link).
    Welcome from Oxford, MS.

I'm sure I'm not partial, but the Keith tartan would be the best. Welcome from Waco

Nary a disagreement from me on the Keith tartan. There is a good pallet of options, even green to honor your wife's family.
