Hello
Hi my name is Sidney and Iam new here obviouscly.
My spelling sucks so I hope ya folks can bear with me please.
Ive done alot of searching online for a traditional 16th century scottish highlander kilt but to no avail I gave up so I started a new search recently and found this place and it looks like I might be abel to find the info I need and hopefully have fun.
Also I was wandering if anyone knows how I can find out about my famialy geneology Ive searched for geneology and I keep finding stuff about the town Haswell scottland instead of my famialy. Iam sure this isent the place to find out about stuff like that but Its important to me so I can find our colors and more importantly out crest.
Ive been doing searches for years and alwase come up short handed.
I hope I can find the info ive been looking for and I hope I might be abel to find helpfull links here as iam sure others have done the same thing to find out there heratage.
Thank you and good night.

Well, since I'm up so late, I'll be the first to say WELCOME! You'll surely be able to find many of the answers you are seeking here. As far as the genealogy: there's really no quick route to those kind of answers. I've gathered information on mine through years of searching etc.
If you have a Scottish surname, you should be able to find your family tartan here. If you have an Irish surname, there's still a chance your family has a tartan. However, if Irish, your tartan is highly likely to be a county tartan.
Anyhow, tell us about yourself and someone should be able to help.
Again, welcome. Enjoy your stay. You'll soon learn that we are quite the collection of kilties here at Xmarks.

first of all, welcome aboard! You're spellings not that bad ;)
As for the questions, others will be able to help you more than I.
As for the 16th century kilt; it was rather simple. It was basically 4-ish yards of cloth about 60" wide, gathered in the back and belted on. Matt Newsome's articles ( http://albanach.org/kilt.html , for example) cover it very well, and you can learn a lot over there.
Best of luck!

Thnk you thank you
I know its gonna take me years to find it out but Ive been having a hard time to find a base for a search.
I dont know diddaly about surnames, my last name is Haswell, my mothers maiden last name is ladd, her mothers maiden last name is noel IIRC before that I dont know gradmah is pritty old and noone in the famialy really talks about great granny, I am gonna have to ask.
My father is scott/welsh my mom is irish/dutch but mainly Iam scottish Its very apparent in my vocal tone and my features and my attitude hehe.
Thank you again I hope to find out my heratage as I would like to return the famialy to scottland someday.

Try your local library and see if they have a genealogy department, or see if there is a genealogical society near you. Both are good at helping folks get started on their genealogy. Remember to work your way back; whilst it's tempting to try to find that distant ancestor first, that usually doesn't work. (I was a genealogical librarian, btw).
I noticed you mentioned a "crest" -- remember that in Scotland, there is no such thing as a "family crest" -- coats-of-arms are owned by individuals, not surnames. If you can find a connection to a particular clan, you may be able to wear a badge with the Chief's crest to denote your allegiance.
Good luck!
Todd

Welcome to our little rabble of kilts Sidney. There are several folks around here that wear the belted plaid, I'm sure they will chime in sooner or later. For family stuff - also check familysearch.org and ancestry.com.
