Hello
Hello, my name is Tammy Walker Parker. I am descended from MacNucator which switched to Walker in the 18th century. My clan fidelity is Clan McMillan. John Walker 1st was my many great grandfather from Wigtown (Wigton) Scotland. He came to America in the late 1600's with 2 sons then returned and brought the rest of the family to America to stay. The Walkers settled Walker Creek, Va. My line continued from John to Samuel. My many great grandfather Samuel and 2 of his nephew were killed at Walker Creek in an Indian. massacre. After this, some of the Walkers migrated to Tennessee where they settled the Appalachian Mnts. They were one of the first families of Tennessee. Being adventurous, some continued to Texas, Arkansas, and further West. I am proud of my Scottish Heritage. There is actual a book which is wrote concerning the descendents of John Walker which can cbe downloaded to read(https://archive.org/details/genealogyofdesce00inwhit). My genealogy is on ancestry I believe I got as far back as the 1400's. I am excited to of been accepted and maybe meet others that is part of the Walkers. I havent learn to add a comment yet to threads so apologies in advance for this.

Welcome, that's great to know that much genealogy. I've never made it past the 1600s with any of mine.

I was REAL lucky. The book was a great help. I was able to use alot of her information especially since I still live in Tennessee which I was able to correlate with TN historical records.. John Walker's descendants was one of the better known immigrations from Scotland due to alot of information in the book and the records which she kept. Unfortunately, so many immigrants got lost through the centuries of time because they were forcibly sent as prisoners by the English whose records were limited, inaccurate, or just nonexistent. The prisoners had to survive not only malnourishment and the sickness in the darkness in the hull of a ship to be thrown overboard if they got a sickness which was feared contagious(all was feared when it came to Scots)or after their death. These poor souls had to survive serving their time as prisioners or indentured servants for the English and then survive in a strange land if they were so lucky to be released being almost sure to never see Scotland again. Many did not and their names were gone forever without a trace because they had no family in America, their families already thought them dead or their families were lost to the cruel treatment, starvation, and massacres by the English soldiers in Scotland after the second Jacobite Uprising. Many of the poors souls which now lived here must also be buried here but during this historical time period, you got grave marker if someone knew your name but people died more time that not killed by animals, indians or other people who left you where you died so animals demolished the body.To add to the already dire position Scottish prisoners, indentured servants or immigrants were in, many didn't know how to read or write and genelogy had to be past down by stories and word of mouth until someone found their family interesting and wrote about it to be past down. By that time, most of the information was lost forever. I love Scottish history and genealogy. Groups and blogs such as this one is such a great asset to the Scottish clans and descendents because we can help each other. It may take just one name, a story or search suggestion to give someone that needed spark to help them discover the link to where they are from. I know when all the research started coming together for mine it was such an AMAZING feeling to know where my family came from and be part of something so much bigger than me. I apologize I wrote a very long post due to feeling so passiontely about being a Scot-American .Thank you for the Welcome.

Well met Tammy. I, like derosa, can only journey back in my family line to the 1650's. We (my family) are true Americans with a Scottish heritage. Like minded folks heed the call to distant times and land of our forefathers and carry on in the present here at XMarks. Glad to have you on board.

Hello from Alabama!
Same here, 1600's is as far back as the paper trail will allow, so far.
How wonderful for you to have that information!
