"Hello" from the Adirondack Mountains of Upstate, New York
Good afternoon, all! I'm Matthew, and I live in the town of Saranac in New York State (less than an hour from the Canadian Border).
I don't currently own a kilt, nor have I ever worn one, but I've wanted one for sometime. Over the last few years, I've been expanding my knowledge about sewing and have made a few shirts, so I've decide to learn what I can about kilt making and sew my own.
My research brought me here (via a link to the X-kilt), and I've been spending some time reading this great forum. I work mostly from home, so whatever I construct will (most likely) be for home-wear or hiking (before and after black fly season).

Oh yeah, I've been up there in black fly season. You don't want to be wearing a kilt then.
For those of you who haven't been in the Adk during black fly season, think midges by the cloud, with blood.

Yep! Black flies are intolerable--even when covered from head to toe. Luckily, we can have some breezy days during the summer, so there are occasional reprieves throughout the season.

Welcome! I grew up in Montreal and I hiked your Adirondack Mountain Club trails extensively as a young man. Elizabethtown was only an hour's bus ride ± (a hassle-free border crossing at the time) and it was a short hike to the trail system. The Saranac Lake area is beautiful. That HAS to be done in a kilt! (You sort of get used to donating blood to black flies BUT NOT UP THERE!) Remember, our Scots cousins have to put up with their Midges ...
Those ancient U Nialls from Donegal were a randy bunch.
