    Hello Again

I used to be on this forum years ago. I don't even remember my user name now. I knit kilt hose.

A lot of things have happened since then, some good, some bad. I'm looking down the barrel of a legal name change. At first I was just going to pick out some thing that sounded nice, like Stillwater, but it occurred to me to honor my heritage. My mother's maiden name is Beatty, which falls under Clan MacBeth.

I started to look into my genealogy a little further and started popping up with questions about clans and heraldry and the like. I thought: Hey, I bet I know a place where people would know this.

Welcome from an exiled Scot living in the English Midlands.

Hope you make a good decision about the name-change. I have rather regretted that I didn't change my name - it's a bit late now! (Complex family reasons!)

My maternal side is Scottish, so I've done quite a lot of family history research on that side.

It's an odd subject. My son was adopted (people didn't accept or admit that he is a good man and I approved of him as a dad for my son) and faced the name changing problem. He did and doesn't regret it. He still has my family DNA and has passed that on to his son along with his current surname. His son may face the same problem in the future. The final word, as Shakespeare cited, "A Rose by any other name..." You don't lose your essence just because they don't call you by the former title.
