Hello from Alabama
Earlier this year I came to the disturbing realization that I am an adult, so I quickly re-framed that in a more positive manner: "As an adult, you can wear whatever you want to." Now, my friends had been telling me this for a few years now (probably to get me to stop dressing as if I play WoW professionally and don't understand clothes), but it finally dawned on me that I'd always carried a fascination with kilts. After some research (which time and again brought me back to this board), I settled on a Ireland's National Casual (USAK) and love it. It's received uniformly positive comments from my colleagues, students, and glowing praise from random strangers.
Of course, now I want more kilts. Since I'd like to continue wearing kilts through the winter, I'm trying to decide whether another P/V kilt (which has been great in the summer heat) or a wool kilt would be ideal. I'd amused myself with the idea of giving winter a "test drive" by standing in a Beer Cave for awhile in my casual, but I'm doubtful that a Beer Cave would effectively simulate both Alabama winter and New Hampshire winter (where I spend the holidays). Oddly, I've found the cold in NH easier to tolerate than in AL.

First of all, from Oklahoma!
Secondly, a wool kilt will certainly be warmer in the cold. I have a 13oz wool kilt that works perfectly well in an Oklahoma winter. I have a USAK casual in PV as well. Even in the warmer weather I prefer the feel of wool ( my wool kilt is from USAK too), but if you can afford a wool one ....why not? It just gives you another option.
Oh, and by the way, we like pictures

Welcome from the UK.
As ST said, wool will be warmer - my wedding reception was in a rather cold March and whilst outside for a quick cool down (and sneaky cigarette), I had to take my jacket off as I far too warm...
So, if you want to wear a kilt in winter - make it wool!

Welcome from Michigan I've worn both my PV kilt and wool kilts in the winter, and I'd would recommend wool for the winter. I've been out in the winter with the wind howling and the snow flying and only my knees got a little cold, then again my ski coat and pants have no insulation either.
