Hello all from Arkansas!
Hello all!! My name is James. Great site with a lot of information it seems. Currently I am working on doing my ancestry on my dads side to see where it takes me. Moms side takes me to England, as close as I can get to Scottish heritage. Which is basically Apples to Oranges I know, but I'm trying!
I currently have one kilt, (one in profile) which i found out is just a basic standard Ebay item. Which I purchased one night from a bar we were at having wanted one for a while. It did look very similar to the Arkansas State Tartan which I learned about from this site.
I am in the process of trying to decide on an everyday plain utility kilt. I am a volunteer firefighter so the firefighting kilts are also another option that I love!
Any way thanks for allowing me access to such a great site and people!!
James
Update:
Well I know a love for kilts and red hair don't make you Scottish by any means. So 2 days I have spent on ancestry.com trying to trace things back. It was difficult starting off as my dad was adopted by the 2nd husband of my grandma and was never close to his real dad.
So I started out with his real dad's name and was lucky to find a relative that had basically done the work for me. She said about 6 generations ago lived in Ireland and 3-4 after that were Scottish and help build the Castle of Dean.
So I get on House of Tartan and am able to find the Boyd family tartan as well as it saying they were associated with the Town of Kilmarnock and we're from Southwest Scotland.

Aloha James
Aloha from Hawaii James.
I grew up in NE Arkansas, and spent 17 years as a Firefighter / Paramedic there. I like the Firefighter kilt myself, I just can't bring myself to wear a Utilikilt, Im a traditionalist and can't even get myself to wear a Sportkilt now, lol.
