    Hello from California

Thanks for allowing me to join the community! I am Mac from Martinez, CA and have just recently been introduced to kilts. A Brother from my Masonic Lodge is being installed as WM later this year and has asked all officers to wear kilts. Being a McDonald, the sales rep recommended the McDonald Modern Tartan from Sportskilt and I am here hoping to find out which of the MacDonald Clans this tartan actually belongs to. This being new to me, it has peaked my interest and I am here to learn the dos and don'ts. I also am hoping to get a clan set of accessoires to match this kilt but honestly there seems to be so many MacDonald Clans that it is a bit overwhelming. Any and all help would be appreciated.

    from the Scottish Borders.

If you are near Ventura CA you should get along the Seaside Highland Games there next month.

I have a MacDonald ancestry line, also my late wife was a McConnell and I sometimes wear the McConnell tartan in her honour. It is a similar tartan to one of the MacDonald tartans.

Welcome from San Francisco. Might I suggest that before deciding on any one kilt to purchase that you check for your tartan with several of the members that are advertisers here. I am sure you will find just the tartan you are looking for.

Welcome form the Keystone state, Pennsylvanian.

May I also suggest that you look in to a box pleated wool kilt from Matt Newsome at the Scottish Tartan Museum, or one of Rocky Roeger kilts from USAKilts. This is not to say that the Sportkilt is not a good product or that any of the other kilt makers here can do an excellent job. There are a lot of choices out there, look at the offerings of the various advertiser on this site to understand your choices.

from Chicago. The only problem with a kilt from Matt (who by the way is now at New Highland House is that the waiting list is so long, you wouldn't have it in time for the ceremony. His workmanship, however, is superior.
