Hello from Central Florida!
An old geezer here. Central Florida as some may know has a thriving Scots community. In fact, even though elevation is only 100ft, I am from The Highlands just south of Lakeland Florida. We have several active Scottish Societies here with each their own Scottish Highlands Games. I am of Scottish decent, a McKendree, the line that founded McKendree University in Illinois, although my particular family has been here in Florida fir 5 gens. My great grandmother McKendree married a German Helveston. Ha! So raised a German, but interested strongly in the Scots side, I took a visit to Edinburgh a few years back and found my tartan! Henderson! My avatar shows me first kilt tried on just outside of Edinburg. I’m wanting to rock a kilt and looking for support! Thank you for this forum!

Welcome from a Scotsman living in the English midlands. Glad to hear you have a thriving Scottish community there in Florida - maybe a lot more kilted people than there are here!

I also hail from central Florida (Clermont), although I am currently working in China.
There are a variety of groups and events in Florida, and you will enjoy exploring them all. The kilt is a comfortable and practical garment in the heat and humidity, although you will likely want to experiment with different hose options to find which feels most breathable to you.
Happy Kilting!
