Hello from Connecticut.
I have had so many questions answered by this forum already, without even registering. It seemed like every time I did a google search, this site came up and provided answers to every question I’ve had about the Kilt. I decided, last week, to actually register with the site, and, after standing in the corner and watching a bit, I think it’s finally time I got around to introducing myself.
Having grown up being told of my Scottish and Irish ancestry I’ve always had a natural interest in both Ireland and Scotland. After having my grandfather’s records passed on to me and realizing how little was actually documented, I recently started digging into my genealogy a bit myself. This has resulted in a renewed interest in all things Scottish and Irish (Paternal Side), and added an interest in things Welsh (Maternal Side), as well. It has also created an unintended addiction to genealogy research...I had no idea what I was getting myself into!
My husband and I are avid hikers/backpackers. I’ve worn regular hiking and athletic skirts for hiking for a couple years now, and even though I liked them better than shorts, I’d never been completely satisfied with any of them. So many are either too short, or too restrictive, for climbing boulders and things (something we do a lot of in New England). I recently learned that a lot of men and women wear kilts for hiking and decided to invest in a Sport-Kilt for myself, which I have totally fallen in love with! Finally something with superior freedom of movement and a decent length! My high praise also got my husband more interested though he was a little more nervous about actually wearing a kilt, and unsure what tartan he should choose. Y’know, all the typical Kilt-Newb questions. Through this board I was able to reassure him, answer many questions, and help him pick out an inexpensive, but fantastic, kilt from Stillwater Kilts to test the waters with. So, a quick thanks goes out to everyone for all the information on here!!
He took his kilt out on the trail yesterday (Tartan Day!) for the first time, and I have a feeling this is the start of a beautiful addiction.
So, there it is, the story of how I came to be here.

Welcome from the Jemez mountains of northern New Mexico! I hope you enjoy the XMTS forum, though it sounds like you already do, ... and have.
I changed my signature. The old one was too ridiculous.
