Hello from Escondido California
Hello, my name is Boaz Clark, yes Boaz is a biblical name and most friends call me Bo. I am from Escondido California, which is in North San Diego County.
I learned of my heritage about 10 years ago when I found my grandfather’s death certificate on-line. Listed his parents from Scotland and Ireland, so I’m a mix, but my parents refused to speak about any family lines at all.
Since finding out about my Scottish and Irish roots I have been exploring and researching as much as I can. A few years ago, a friend surprised me with a Scotch whisky tour in Scotland for a birthday present. It was a grand time, one I will never forget.
I am trying to find a group to practice for my first highland games participation, but so far I haven’t found one.
As for a Kilt, I don’t have yet but I am looking into getting one soon. I will probably start with the Clergy Tartan which is the same at the Clark Tartan. Any recommendations for a Kilt source will be appreciated. The only problem I see with having a Kilt and Scottish attire is when will I wear it? Any sharing of your experiences here will also be appreciated.
Bo

As to when to wear a kilt? Anytime you want. I wear a kilt anytime I'm not working.

Hi Bo and a warm welcome from sunny Queensland!
As has been said, wear your kilt anywhere any time the mood takes you. I spent a lot of time working in California in the 80s and 90s and found everyone very accepting of individual preferences - you'll have no problems, I'm sure.
As for the Games, likelihood is you will get a bit muddy or dusty from time to time, so you might want to consider a PolyViscose (PV) kilt for competition, since they are easier to wash and dry than heavy weight wool. We'll look forward to the pictures of your first perfect caber toss!
Regards, Sav.
