Hello Everyone, from Missouri
I'm a newbie to this forum, or any forum ever. I have been surfing for while now through the threads, and have found them very informative, and a lot of great folks on them.
I am a retired mechanical contractor, and life time member of the United Association of Plumbers, Pipefitters, Steam fitters international of the US, and Canada, and a member of Pipefitters local 178.
I am a Mason, and member of Solomon Lodge 241, and both a Scottish rite, and York rite mason, and a Knight of St Andrews with the Scottish rite valley of Joplin Mo., and a Knights Templar with St Johns commandery #20 Springfield, MO
That is where the Kilts come in. I have been wearing them since the Masonic universal Tartan came into being, and as a knight of St Andrew we wear them to lodge, and every function that we are involved with including several parades through the year for both Springfield, and Joplin.
I am not sure if this is the proper place to ask, but have been though Ancestry.com, working on my ancestry several years now, and would like to know if anyone out there could help me out with the question of septs. I have found on numerous Tartan web sites that we where septs of the Mackay's but I have been unable to verify this for sure.
According to my research are surname is of Norman French origin, but I have Scottish ancestors dating back to the 1700's to present.
But I have never been able to find a tie between us and the Mackay's other than claims, but no hard proof. according to the Tartan register, and Tartans authority are name has nothing on record.
If anyone out there can help me with this it would be super appreciated.
Thank all of you in advance, and have a great day.

Start here for some good info on septs...
Greetings from a Clan Mackay descendent, genealogist and brother Mason!
There's a great deal of debate over the entire "sept" issue and FAR more info than should be posted here...so for starters, go here:
http://www.electricscotland.com/webclans/septs.htm
Feel free to email me (check profile) offline if I can help further...no expert but have been down this road myself.
Whereabouts in MO are you? A bunch of my 'Mackey' kin lived (and still are) in Pike County...Clarksville, Louisiana, etc.
Cheers!

Thank You Brother for the info, I have not checked this sight. I am located in Springfield MO, which is in SW Missouri. I have lived here the past 30 years, and born in the Lake Ozark area of central Mo.
My family had migrated there from Copper Creek VA in what is now Scott county VA 138 years ago. They had originally arrived in James Town VA, in 1635 from Kent England. I have traced ancestors from Herefordshire to Scotland, and Normandy.
Thank you again for the info, and Cheers
