Hello from Georgia
New here and glad to have found y'all. Not kilted as of yet but am educating myself prior to my first purchase. I have always wanted to aquire appropriate highland attire considering that I am basically pure highland Scot patrilineally, surname McLeod. My people come from a section of south Alabama known as McLeod's Beat aka little Scotland since all of the original families immigrated as a group from Skye circa 1774 and remained in place for the next 200 yesterday, well actually 2013 will mark the actual bicentennial of my people's arrival in Clarke county Alabama. The preceding years were spent either imprisoned in or fleeing from the Carolina's thanks to some upstart rebels. ;)
I look forward to chatting and learning from other Gaels to better help me honor my own little sept and the memories of those who got me here.

Re: Hello from Georgia
Welcome from the snowy mountains of northern New Mexico! I spend time in the Valdosta area almost every year.
One of my favorite tartans is the Macleod of Harris, but coming from Skye I suppose that makes your family Macleods of Lewis. Is that correct?
I have a MoH kilt that I wear to commemorate Alistair Crotach Macleod and the legend of MacLeod's table. I would like to see it, and climb it some day, if it's allowed.
I changed my signature. The old one was too ridiculous.

Re: Hello from Georgia
Guid mawn, yersel, and welcome! What part of Georgia are you in now? Just curious... My in-laws are Stewarts from Elba/Troy area. Maybe your kin and they have crossed swords at some time or other (as heilanmen are wont to do)? :P
Anywho... I'm sure you'll find your full share of info here (and more so of opinion) for getting yourself kitted out. It's a grand adventure whatever! Enjoy.
Slainte Mha!
Aye,
Wesley
