Hello from the Great White North
I’ve been lurking for a while, a figure it’s time to say hello.
As the title hints, I am located in Eastern Ontario, Canada. I am a 3rd generation Canadian. My Great-Grandfather, John McArthur, immigrated to Canada as a boy from the Isle of Lewis. I’ve always been fascinated by my Scottish heritage. I remember when I was about 6-7, we were all dressed in tartan for a family reunion. I was dressed in a pair of tartan trousers with a tartan sash. I still have the sash.
I finally bought my first kilt as a New Years gift for myself. I didn’t want to spend a lot, because A: I wanted to make sure I would wear it and B: I intend to wear it as regular day wear, including in the workshop. My own tartan is a tad expensive for that. UTKilts, in the States, had a sale on their Standard kilt in Highland Grey, so I jumped on it.
I love it. While I don’t wear it every day, we’ve had a pretty cold season this year, I wear quite often. Often enough, that I am considering a second utility kilt to give me some colour variety. My wish list still has a traditional McArthur plaid on it though. I bought a pair of hose at the same time, but failed to add a pair of flash to my cart. Having never wore Hose such as these before, I underestimated their importance.

I also failed to order a belt. So I dug into my army kit and found my old parade buckle and a piece of olive green strapping. Not perfect, but it works.

I have learned a lot from you guys already, and hope to learn a lot more.

At the tightest setting of the buckles, it is just on the edge of a good fit. The belt just adds a little confidence when I’m out working. LOL
