Hello From Howell, Michigan
Hello,
I've wanted to wear the kilt since my late teens when I saw and heard kilted piper. I even picked up some tartan wool from a woolen mill in my hometown. Unfortunately, it was over thirty years ago and I had no idea what I was doing. There wasn't anything at my local library and the university didn't have much.
Thirty two years later, my wife and I went to the Michigan Renaissance Festival for the first time in years. We quit going when had kids. I was surprised by the number of kilts we saw and the kilt shops. Decided right then an there I just had to have one of my own. I recently found out my maternal grandmother was a MacQueen so I ordered an acrylic traditional kilt in my family tartan.
We had so much fun at the festival, while waiting for the delivery of my new kilt, I did some research and put together a playton outfit for the festival. I made a belted plaid great kilt, cheater sticked the pleats, made a shirt, made a Rob Roy style sporran, and a hand stitched doublet.
I'm in the process of designing some casual canvas and tweed sporrans. The tweed is from cloth recovered from old jackets.
I often wear my MacQueen kilt to work on casual dress days, to the pub, and around town. Cannot wait until August to return to MRF.
