Hello from Indianapolis Indiana
Hi,
I'm originally from Pennsylvania, and my family ancestry goes back to the UK. We are the Fox's from Ireland, The Bigelow's from England, and the Davison's (Davidson) from Scotland. I'm on here seeking some specific information for my first trip to Scotland this summer, but am happy to discuss anything that comes up along the way.
I can't say I am overly excited to don a tartan at this time, but perhaps after my visit I will feel differently? I hope to find some familial connections during my stay, and will also be investing heavily in absorbing as much of the local culture as I can.
Thanks for letting me join what seems to be a large and energetic group.

About your trip, the topic of Americans wearing kilts while on holiday in Scotland comes up fairly often, if you have time you could go back over some of those threads.
About the Davidson tartan, there are several.
According to The Setts of the Scottish Tartans one of the designs, now called "Davidson of Tulloch", appears in a number of early-19th century collections (including the Highland Society of London's 1822 collection) and was simply called "Davidson" until the mid-19th century. It's said to be the oldest Davidson clan tartan.
It's a straightforward blue & green tartan with white and red over-stripes.
The tartan now called "Clan Davidson", is said to be a more recent design, possibly late-19th century. It has much black in the ground, and with only red over-stripes. The basic pattern is said to resemble the Henderson tartan.

Hello,
My main interest has to do with the Highland Games in Lochearnhead on 22 July. My mate and I will be residing in Edinburgh for the week and would love to see the games in Lochearnhead. It looks like a very beautiful backdrop, and features a number of games and competitions. However, there is no easy way to get there. The best opportunity we currently have to get there, for this all day event, is to hire a private driver. But that is very costly. The train system looks effective half the way there, but the buses don't run when we need them to match up, so Public transportation is out.
So, I'm seeking an alternative way to get to Lochearnhead, and I am all ears to suggestions.
I have explored a number of ways already, and none make as much sense as the car hire. But I am hopeful we can find a group of other people also venturing out to Lochearnhead that we can share a ride with for the games. Such a ride, I think would enhance our experience.
