Hello.. stumbled on this forum while looking for kilt etiquette advice and thought I'd drop in.

After years of threatening to wear Highland Dress to a black tie event I hired one for our Christmas party last year and had so much fun I decided that I wasn't wearing a bow tie with trousers ever again!

So, in Edinburgh last weekend I ordered myself a made to measure kilt in a Cunningham tartan - as that's my own name I don't need to get into any debates about what tartan I 'should' wear. I actually think it's a wonderful pattern and love the bright red against the formal black attire.

I've got the full package with the Prince Charlie jacket for black tie events (the usual combination that's worn here), but thinking about some more casual options - most likely either the very casual t-shirt+hiking boots or a mid-way shirt&tie, so will need to add something a bit less dressy than the fur sporran to the ensemble.

I'm thinking a plain black sporran for the dress down look - and I love the idea from here of a antler-handled bottle opener instead of the sgian dubh - especially with the draconian anti-weapons laws here in the UK.

Depsite the Scottish name (Andrew Cunningham), I was born in Wales. A while ago I saw a black sporran tooled with a Welsh dragon but I can't find it again - any pointers? I want the whole thing in black as a red dragon would have to be the exact colour of the red in the kilt to look good.

I don't think I'm likely to be wearing it that often - but will be certainly wearing it when I get the chance! If I go back to Edinburgh for the same event next year I'll have to wear an orange t-shirt for the event - that's not going to look good with a red and black tartan kilt!!!
