Hello from LA!
Hello from LA! My name is Jake.
I joined this community because I enjoy seeing the different interpretations of Highland wear. I believe much of what we do is inspired by actual history, but that there is a fair bit of fashion and pomp as well— nobody is truly ‘right’ in every detail and the most important thing is respect for the traditions! And perhaps a sense of humor.
I donned my first kilt at fifteen, a heavyweight military-pleated MacIntosh, as a piper in the Anah Temple Highlanders Bagpipe Band of Bangor, Maine. At eighteen I switched to the United States Military Academy tartan, representing West Point on fields far and wide. Nowadays I wear a family tartan, Lamont. The memories the kilt has brought me are too many to count!
Thank you to everyone who contributes here. I look forward to joining the discussion.
Sláinte,
Jake D.
