Hello from Louisiana
I've had a pseudo-kilt (TactiKilt) that I've worn on occasions. My son recently bought me a proper wool Black Watch kilt. I'm interested in wearing it properly, without anyone turning their nose up at me. I'd appreciate any guidance from a fellow kilted rogue. Please,
I need your help.

Welcome to the "Great Rabble!"
You'll get all the advice you can handle here!
If I may kick off, please save your dollars until you can afford to buy quality. The joy of good price is short lived compared to the long term pain of poor quality.
Focus on a top notch kilt and sporran. The rest... can fall into place in time. Your sporran need not be fancy either; just really good quality leather with a strap, not a chain that might somehow snag on your expensive kilt.
Understated high quality will always speak for itself. "Bling" speaks loudly too, but what it says isn't very flattering.
Here's a really good guide to help you, from your new XMarks friends: http://www.xmarksthescot.com/forum/f...-attire-46888/
Cheers, and again, welcome!

Welcome, this is a great place for guidance on highland appealer and all things kilt related. I would recommend starting with the sections Putting It On Properly and How to Accessorize your Kilt as places to start.

How do you do Voodoo. Welcome to X Marks from Delaware. Congratulations on your new Black Watch kilt, now you are ready to build a proper kit. You can start by becoming familiar with the various categories of this site and perusing some past threads (Father Bill and LKM have already posted some excellent suggestions). Also, visit the web sites of the advertisers (especially the kilt makers) you'll find around the border of this page and study their pictures for ideas. Have fun and feel free to ask questions when you are not certain about the finer points of the attire.
Glad you chose to join the kited rabble and I look forward to your participation.

Simon Fraser fought as MacShimidh, a Highland chief… wrapped and belted in a plaid over the top of his linen shirt, like his ordinary kinsmen. He put a bonnet on his head, and stuck the Fraser emblem, a sprig of yew, in it. With the battle cry, A'Chaisteal Dhunaidh and the scream of the pipes, they charged to battle. Well met new friend from the South. There's plenty of time between now and Fat Tuesday to get an ensemble together. Choose wisely. Not every thing has to have the pizazz of Mardi Gras. Hose color you like, sporran that suits your needs and tastes, shirts that wear well for your climate and still meet you level of protocol (sports bar or masked ball) can be assessed with this bunch of rowdies. Welcome, from a bit further north of you.
