Hello from Minnesota!
I am new to the idea of wearing a kilt. I have browsed many websites looking for a good 'starter' kilt.
I am looking for casual wear or afternoon/night about town, nothing fancy.
Any and all suggestions would be helpful.
I have watched the "Year of the Kilt" videos on YouTube and thought it offered some good insight.
Thank you in advance.

Welcome from down the road.
Many of the advertisers on this site can get you started in the right direction with relatively inexpensive kilts and gear. Two are from Minnesota—Celtic Croft and Stillwater Kilts. USA Kilts Casual is also well regarded by forum members. Just remember, as with anything else, you get what you pay for. You might also want to attend the Minnesota Scottish Fair and Highland Games in Eagan July 9. ( http://www.mnscottishfair.org/ ) to get more ideas. Good luck.

There are so many questions you need to ask yourself. Do you want to use a sporran or prefer pockets. Do you want to wear it traditional waist or pants waist. Tartan or solid color. Just for example. The term "starter kilt" always amuses me. It should be first kilt, it seems that they multiply. If you are unsure as to how much you will use your kilt, i recommend reasonably priced like USA casual sytle. I also think the American Heritage is a nice subdued, regal tartan for a first timer. Looking forward to hearing about your choice. Welcome from Long Island. Larry

Thank you!
I will check that out as I have family in Eagan. I have attended the Highland Games weekend a couple of times at the Minnesota Renaissance Festival before. I will have to add this to my summer trips.
Thank you, again.

Much thanks, Long Island Larry!
I will look into the pants waist versus traditional waist as I have just lost over a 150 pounds in the past year and am still getting used to wearing clothes differently. I would not have thought of that, thanks again!

Well met Jack. Your term "starter" is great. Think of being kilted as a journey where you have a full tank of gas, three weeks off of work, more money than you need and an itch for adventure. You'll hear the word "addiction" mentioned here. Choose well new friend and you won't look back.
I got a traditional and utility kilt when I first bought kilts. I use either when the urge to go kilted arises (depending on the activity).
