Hi everyone.

I'm glad to have found this forum, though the first 20 or 30 threads I looked at were all about how trash my sportkilt is

I'm new to both kilt wearing and highland games heavy athletics. I participated in my first games last year and used a sponsored loaner Sport Kilt, and loved being kilted up all day.

I recently bought my own sportkilt (Hunting Works) for this year's competitions that I've been training for, and I think I'll be very pleased with it in that context. Going forward, I'm interested in getting several upgrades; I'd really like a wool 5 yard Cameron for my girlfriend's huge family weddings, and I'm also very into the look of tartan trews. My family name is Beatty, but my girlfriend and I like to match, and her (grandmother's) family name is Cameron, so we've kind of locked into that tartan for now.

I've seen that SWK has a Standard kilt in the Cameron, but I'm worried that the acrylic fabric will be too hot for summer games, does anyone here throw in acrylic? I'd also like to know how people like competing with a traditional waist kilt vs the more casual cut of the sportkilts. Are the higher traditional cuts too restricting?

Also, a super newbie question: I'm planning to wear my kilt out to the pub to meet a few friends on Saturday. Can I wear my hose and red garter tie flashes with my workboots and a sweater? I"m going to do it, anyway, but I'd like to know how much of a sin it's considered.

Anyway, thanks to you all for being a part of this community; I've already had so many questions answered by lurking.
