    Hello from Oklahom

Hello, my name is Nathan. from Oklahoma, I haven't got a kilt, yet. Been thinking that I would want to make my own first. Mainly due to my girth as I am a MoS.
I have a question or two.
    1. whats the best fabric to use. wool or a cotton blend?
    2. Do the more modern style of kilt, not the belted plaid, have to have the buckles on the side?

    1) Definitely wool. Especially if you're going with a traditional style kilt. If that's the case, I highly recommend the book The Art of Kiltmaking by Barb Tewksbury.

    2) Not sure what you're considering as an alternative, but there are other options.

Hello Nathan, Welcome from St. Louis MO! Enjoy your kilted journey.

I would suggest trying your hand at making an X-Kilt, the instructions are on the forum. I used a painters drop cloth from Lowes for mine, 8oz and 4ft by 15ft (set me back about $20) and still have some material left over. Did mine over a week in the evenings. Way better than sitting if front of the TV.
