Hello from Pittsburgh!
Hello all!
I am originally from Hong Kong, but currently reside in Pittsburgh, PA. My wife and I got married earlier this summer, and I am glad to be joining her and her father's clan (MacDonald)! Ever heard of a Chinese-Scot? I guess even if I don't yet qualify, our kids will!
Decided to register for the forum since I almost end up here anyways from Google-ing kilt related information... It really seems like a nice community, and a very supportive, lively bunch of great people!
I love my kilts, and so does my wife! So I guess I am a really "extra" lucky man, especially after reading all the "how do you get your spouse to support/tolerate my kilt wearing" threads! I started off a number of years ago with a cheap acrylic MacDonald kilt from the Highland Games in Ligonier, PA, and it's grown since then! The acrylic kilt no longer fits (lost some weight!), and I bought an Elkommando from Mountain Hardware to satisfy my casual wear cravings. She bought me a Survivor Utilikilt for Christmas a couple years ago, and got her father to be in a kilt with me for our wedding. She even bought herself a nice mini this fall and loves it! (She does try to help me "space-out" my purchases )
I make it a habit to wear my kilts often as I enjoy the comfort very much. My PA Casual kilt from USA Kilts probably see the most use, followed by the Utilikilt. Some of the people around me love seeing me in a kilt, some just don't understand/like the idea of it. I guess that's just a fact of life! If you ask me, they're the ones missing out!
My mother in law did some research at the Tartan Registry, and found that a Chinese Scottish Tartan was designed a few years ago to celebrate the great relationship the Chinese and Scots have with one another! Guess what will be my next target kilt??
We'd love to eventually meet others in the area who enjoy their kilts, kilted skirts, or their "kilted men"! So drop me a line here and lets see if we could eventually have a Pittsburgh meet-up! (I am a full time grad student, so schedules can be weird)
Thanks!
Dexter
