Hello from Spartanburg SC!
Hi there from a rainy and dreary Spartanburg!
Now I'm hoping to get a lot of help from y'all between now and October!! (And I'll probably post this more than once so hang with me!)
I'm getting married in October and am DESPERATELY trying to find my tartan!! I talked to a guy in Columbia, SC that said that the Dodd family didn't have a tartan. So my dad did some digging and we've discovered ties that would allow me to have the Blackwatch tartan. Soooooooooo anyway...now I need a store that is semi close to me so I can buy some material! My dad and brothers are renting kilts since money is tight, but I'd like some material for a handfasting ceremony or a sash to go around my dress and possibly incorporate it in my wedding cake.
Any ideas? I'm probably going to end up driving to Columbia tomorrow to check things out, but who knows!
ANY information would be GREATLY appreciated!!
Thanks!
Keri

I've found Black Watch fabric to be pretty much ubiquitous, so you should be able to find it, at least in poly-vis or maybe acrylic, at any good-sized fabric shop. The big chains [Jo-Ann, Hancock] always have it, so check at those stores if they're in your area.
and best wishes!

Hello and a warm Celtic from Boston, Massachusetts.
If all you need is a metre or two of tartan, please check with Rocky at USA Kilts for polyviscose, if it is one of his stock tartans. USA Kilts or Scotweb (top right) for wool tartan.
Congratulations on the forthcoming nuptials.

Oh, and does anyone know of any bagpipers in the area? I think we have enough money in our budget to afford one...or I could always make room in the budget by cutting out the cake, wedding dress and food! Ha ha ha!

Hi Keri,
Welcome to XMarks from the other side of the Atlantic in Norfolk, England. Good luck with your tartan hunt and with the wedding.

Franklin, NC, is not that far from Spartanburg, so you might want to check us out at the Scottish Tartans Museum. We rent Black Watch kilts through our gift shop, and can supply sashes, yard goods, and other things you might need in that tartan.
