Hello from Sth Eastern NSW, Australia
Hi and thank you to the creators of this site. It is a trove of information that I have been browsing for months.
My mother was, and her brother and sister are, fiercely proud of their Scots ancestry and I was brought up with that same pride and love of all things Scottish. As I drifted into adulthood, I also discovered a love of whisky and gaelic singing and scots folk music, probably from childhood memories (maybe not the whisky).
My GGrandmother was a Finlay who came out in the 1800s from Auchterderren in Fifeshire. Her 1st husband was a Robinson who unfortunately died young in a mining accident in Dayleford Victoria.
My mother was a Robinson from that line and I remember her parents as being very in touch with their Scots heritage. Every bit of tartan I have ever seen worn by mum and her parents has been Gunn, but I have yet to trace that line back.
Finally got around to buying my 1st kilt a little while ago, unfortunately Mum died before she saw me in it. (She would have been thrilled), but I did get enough mandolin lessons to be able to play her The Skye Boat song towards the end in the nursing home. She seemed to enjoy that, but she was my mum so may have been just humouring me.
Anyway, enough blather from me. This is a great site and I look forward to a long and happy association with it.

Well met and welcome from "Up Yonder" (Since I hear "Down Under" often from my niece living in Queensland, I thought I'd mix up the slang). Glad you've enjoyed the site and we're proud to have you with us.
