Hello from Sunny Glasgow by the Sea!
|
Halò and tha mi toilichte do choinneachadh!
I am Niall Fitzgerald, a half Irish half Scots Glaswegian from Leinster (confused? how d'you think I feel?).
I wear a kilt as often as it I can get away without becoming known as an eccentric. Nothing wrong with eccentricity, I'm just not as good at it as most of the people in my life.
Briefly, I am a mature student working my way through University in my home town of Glasgow and in my spare time I like to get about to rugby matches, football interspersed with visits to the pub.
I have been enjoying wearing the kilt since my teens some 20 years ago and I now have three of my own. My first was an ex-hire Angus now too small, the second was an impulse buy at Lidl a cheap supermarket import (although 100% wool) which is not only too long but went to a drycleaner with no experience in highlandwear who lost the pleats and so it now billows like the sails on Americas Cup racing yachts. My third Kilt I am rather proud of. A made to measure, hand-sewn, 11 and a 1/2 yard Modern Hunting MacGregor pleated Military Style to the white stripe. It is the finest garment I have ever worn.
Ok, so that's enough for now, as I said, pleased to meet you all and as we say in Partick: Tha mo bhàta-foluaimein loma-làn easgannan!

Welcome Niall from across the water. I think I must be regarded as eccentric here.

Haló Niall of Leinster and welcome to X-Marks from Delaware, USA. Would your name be pronounced the same as my name, 'Nile'?
Coincidentally, I was just reading about an Irish King named 'Niall of the Nine Hostages' on another forum called "Scotster". He was a powerful King that lived during the 4th Century and there are, supposedly, many thousands living today that claim to be descended from him.
As I'm sure you will discover, this forum is an outstanding venue for those of us who choose to wear kilts, providing support, how-when & why info, and camaraderie with a great mix of individuals from around the world.
