Hello from, Upper Fraser Valley, BC, Canada
I have been lurking about for a while, needed some direction on how to properly rebuild a +/-100yr old kilt.
I am presently building one from scratch.
My son advised me that when I am finished with this one, I am to make one for each of the drivers (long haul) in our company..(full black), haven't decided whether they will be knife or box pleats)
LOL, lucky I am retired.... Philip

Hello Philip and welcome from Dorset in the UK. I'm no kilt maker so have no idea how to help with your rebuild, but for the short time I've been on the forum, I know there's plenty of excellent advice out there for you. What's the tartan, by the way?
Steve.

Thanks for the warm welcome..
I originally hailed from Erdington, UK... Transpalnted to Abercynon, S.Wales, from there to the Mediterranean (Father in the fleet)... I was posted to Canada as an exchange Officer (RAF) in the early 60's... Married a Fr. Canadian and settled in the colony...
I have now rebuilt several kilts, and finished the build from scratch (one Royal Steward and 2 black Steward), all required the inclusion of stabilizers....
Luckily, I was taught to sew by my mother (seamstress), my son picked up the art, but it seems to have evaded all my girls (4)..... Philip

Greetings Philip, and welcome to X Marks from Delaware, USA. I'm of the Fraser Clan; is Fraser Valley, BC, full of Frasers? Just kidding, of course.
Many of us would appreciate and enjoy your 100 year old kilt. Is it a family kilt and what tartan is it?

Yes, there are many Frasers throughout the valley.
As for the kilt, it was willed to me some 35yrs ago. My grandmother on the paternal side originated in Scotland, genealogy is not my forte'.. The tartan looks to be a very mutted Royal Stewart.....Not at all like the modern colours...... Philip

Greetings from the Cowichan Valley on Vancouver Island Philip.
Good luck in you kilt making.
With your 100 year old kilt I think I would take it to someone who is experienced in such things, such as our own Wizard.
