I have to wonder if this post is just a wee bit premature, as I don't own a kilt yet, but here goes...

I have been intrigued by my Scottish ancestry since I was a little boy, but only recently have I decided to dig into that a little more. If I could have found my family tartan in polyviscose, I probably would have already bought a kilt, but apparently the tartan is not woven in PV so I just have to wait until I can get it in wool. My Clan society in North America, which I have joined, has a stated preference for the Locharron material, so I'll probably go with that, but well made kilts are not cheap, so I'd really like to lose a few pounds first (and keep it off).

Then there is the question "where would I wear it?". I'm not sure a kilt would go over well where I work, but retirement is not too far away. The Virginia Celtic Festival in Richmond is not until the end of August, so I guess there's time.
