Hi, I'm new to the board and new to wearing a Kilt. I have to tell you about the day I bought my Kilt. My wife and I were in Edinburg in October and we went into Geoffrey the Kiltmaker's Shop. I had hoped to buy a Kilt and wear it that day. They told me about the proper length of the Kilt and how I, being 6' 8" tall should have a custom Kilt. (Otherwise I would have a mini-Kilt)
So I picked out a solid black 21st Century Kilt and got measured for it, and it would be shipped to be. So off we went sightseeing in Edinburg. That evening, we stopped by a pub where there were a lot of Scots watching the Scotland Soccer (football) game and many of them were wearing their Kilts. So we got to talking to them and I told one fellow I had ordered my first Kilt that day. He asked me what kind of a shirt I was going to wear with it, and I said I didn't know, and he then stepped back and took off his embroidered soccer T shirt and gave it to me. (He had another shirt on underneath.) I was touched by his gesture, and put it on over my shirt. Many people told me that they couldn't even buy that shirt, and they wanted one. So now that I have my Kilt, I wore it with the special shirt for the first time two weeks ago. (I'll write about that day later.)
