    Hello from Wyoming!

Hello! My name is Duncan. I'm from Cheyenne, Wyoming, though I'll be in Utah for training once I recover from surgery. I'm new to kilts and all that goes with them. That's not to say that I've never worn a kilt before, but the last time was well over a decade ago when I was a small boy!

I've never been too keen on Scottish history and apparel and culture and such, despite being of Scottish descent, mainly for family reasons... Though now, the topic seems to be coming up more and more, and I've started to become curious myself. And I figured the kilt would be a good place to start. That, and due to that recent surgery, pants suck.

So, I just picked up a UT Kilts Black Watch utility kilt. I wanted to try to find something with the tartan associated with my family name, but it's hard to find and I couldn't find anything for a price I could justify. Sorry, $200+ is a lot for something I wasn't sure I'd like. Though now I'm liking it, which is why I'm posting here!

Any tips for newbies to kilts and kilt wearing?

PS, hopefully that wasn't too rambly...

One tip. When wearing a kilt where nobody else will be kilted.....Have an attitude (to yourself) like you own the joint. If you keep looking around to see if you are being looked at....you will look and feel out of place. After a few tries it becomes natural and people will recognize that. Then the questions will start. You end up being the center of everything. Welcome and good luck.

Welcome! I'm new to Kilting in Public, though I've been wearing one around the house for over a year, myself. My advice would be to walk tall (if you can; I have no clue what kind of surgery you went through). Similar to what others said, I guess.

Some people glance, absorb the lack of pants, and move on with their day...but to be honest, I think the majority don't even notice. I've rarely had anyone speak to me about the kilt, and when they do, it's always positive.
