Hi, I'm Bob.
Bob here.
Just getting into the whole kilting thing. Ordered my first modern, solid color kilt to get me started, but I now have the tartan bug so I thought I'd come here and see what y'all are up to.
Searching the ol' family history, there's mention of clans or septs relating to MacNaughton, Bell, and Campbell, but nothing definitive. Strangely, we have discovered that the last name "Campbell" isn't actually from the clan, it was an assumed name from several generations back, though there are ties to Campbell through other channels in the tree.
So, yea, I'm here to figure this whole thing out and get kilted up.

Welcome, Bob
There are far worse afflictions to have than the tartan bug. Enjoy the journey.

Hello and welcome!! Not sure all your historic connections to Campbell or reasons for the assumed name, but having a name that corresponds to a tartan is pretty nice. Campbell is also a pretty common and easy tartan to get (especially if you consider that Black Watch IS "Campbell Modern").

This is part of why I am here. We traced back the "Campbell" last name to someone taking the name as part of a name change generations ago. So, it's a little tricky. There are some unconfirmed connections elsewhere in the tree to "Ballentyne" which supposedly has ties to Campbell, so I probably wouldn't be "wrong" for wearing it. When I say unconfirmed, I mean we know the last name only. Really, all records end with "This guy arrived in the US on a boat from some unknown origin" so relying on last names is hard.
So, I don't know what I'll end up going with yet. I'm not good with this whole ancestry thing anyways, I leave that to my Aunt.

Welcome from Atlanta, GA! Genealogy to discover your Scottish connections is fun, but I haven't had anyone ask me to back up my family ties to the tartan I am wearing. If you have the last name Campbell, and ties to the Campbell clan, I rather doubt you would be challenged for wearing it.
