How can I get started with competing in the Highland Games?
I have been researching a bit but have not found anything regarding how to get started. I have found various exercises to get ready...

The answer is simple.
Find a local Games...NOT the local championships! Find out who's organizing the Athletics.
Send them an e-mail and tell them you want to throw.
They'll probably charge you a little something for the t-shirt and to cover the awards, maybe $20. You might have to sign a liability waiver. You show up bright and early the morning of the Games and you go out on the field and throw.
It's that simple.
Now, do you want to throw WELL? Oh well, that's a little bit more complicated.

That's literally how you get started in your first Games.
You can also go watch a Games, then walk over to the tent where the people keeping score are sitting. Tell them that you want to throw at a Games this season. They'll get you in touch with people who can help you get started and get some practice in.

Welcome, from Indiana,
Scroll down a bit, and there is a forum for highland games. When you see a festival on the website, there is a section concerning the Games. It will usually have an amateur sign up. If there is a note "invitational" then you must be established/rated/known. Good luck, hope to compete with you.

Welcome to the forum. When it comes to advice about competing in the games, Alan H is one of the more experienced on the forum.
