hostess/formal long womens kilt
I found my daughter a formal long women's kilt on EBay for, get this, $25! It is heavier than the 10 oz wool too I think. Anyways, here is my question; my daughter is a bagpiper, she is piping for the Robbie Burns dinner; can she wear the long formal women's kilt or should she stick to her pipers kilt? It is a Christmas present.
Cheers
Jenine

Hello Jenine,
Welcome to XMarks from the other side of the Atlantic in Norfolk, England.
I think it depends on the formality of the event - that is to say, what do the organisers think? I remember going to a Burns supper way back in 1967 and my tartan tie was the only tartan to be seen. The piper wore slacks and an open necked shirt.
I think asking them is the best bet.

Hello Jenine,
Welcome from Brittany.
I think a formal long garment would also look very nice for a change.

Hi
If you go to the Bob Dunsire piping forum
, in the female piper thread, there are several options for women competitors. I would think that the long kilt skirt, paired with a jabot blouse and an optional vest would be just right for the Burns event. The folks there will love her.

Welcome from the highlands of Central Massachusetts. Of course she can wear the skirt! Pipes go with everything. We would like to see the photos when it is done.

Hi Jenine and a warm welcome from sunny Queensland!
Another vote for the formal skirt, should bring a touch of class to the event .
Regards, Sav.

Thanks
Thank You so much for the warm welcome! My dad was a piper and now my daughter is. I attended all the Scottish events when I was a kid, then the games as an adult but now that my daughter is piping we are really getting involved. I will just have to get her the women's blouse. She has played for the last two years at the Burns dinner and yes it is a very formal event. Looking forward to this group. I have found the folks involved in the piping events are some of the nicest people I have met. It has been a fun 2 1/2 years so far and looking forward to many more.
