Howdy.
Hi all- I've been lurking for a while and have just decided to join and start participating.
I've wearing kilts for ~14 years (or kilt, I just had the one, poorly made light weight wool royal stewart). I'm looking forward to the arrival of my second, tan original UK, this week. If I'm feeling like an exhibitionist, I'll post a pic.
My family background is pretty much all British Isles, with roots in England, Scotland and Ireland. My surname is Irish (O'Siadhail in times past, now Shields), and I have no family tartans to speak of- I can find links to many, but none direct.
I like being kilted for many reasons- it looks cool, it's comfortable, it starts conversations and I've gotten to do some things I might have otherwise missed out on because I got noticed.
I'm looking forward to expanding the kilt wardrobe if for no other reason than I lost half my left ear to cancer a few years ago, and when I'm kilted, my ear seems to get less notice (half kidding there, but I've noticed it to be true).
Anyway- hello all, I'm happy to be here.

That made me laugh.
It was the only kilted picture I could find of myself on my laptop- from my son's 4th b-day party. There's a sporran behind him.
