Howdy from Houston, Texas!
I've been a lurker and reader of this forum for some time. I'm a piper (1984 R.G. Hardie pipes), and have been used to wearing Scottish national dress for some years.
While I am a descendant of many different Scottish colonial immigrant families, I've only worn a couple of tartans - Caledonia, Robertson, and Gordon - as a piper, and I'm looking forward to buying a couple of new kilts this year for my family names and historic districts. My own surname is German (spelled Moore, originally Mohr from Karlsruhe, Baden), but my mother's name is Lynch (nice tartan, that!) and her grandmother was a Morrison. Other Scottish names in my tree include Boyd, Wallace, Hunter, Dunlap, Stewart, McMillion, Leslie, Lindsay, and McGehee, among others. I have Celtic ancestry from Scotland, Ulster (those Scotch-Irish), Ireland, Wales, and the Isle of Man (Manx National No. 2 is a very nice tartan). I'm a native of West Virginia and currently reside in Texas where I have spent most of my life.
Anyway, thanks for letting me join. I hope to learn much and am always open to suggestions. Have a wonderful evening, y'all!
