Indiana Newbie
Greets, all!
I'm new to the forum, but my second kilt is about 20 years old (ah, when I had a 36" waist!). I'm currently doing the sporty/casual kilt thing as I continue with the diet (63 pounds down so far, and another 130 or so to go until I'm a happy camper again) and can again wear the full Highland setup.
Back when I lived in the Bay Area in NoCal, and in the DC area, I had no kilt-qualms, but living in small-town Indiana now (about 20 miles south of Indy) I'm not sure how well the kilt will go over. We'll have to see.
Any other kilted Hoosiers here? I'm also looking to get back into piping, since I've recently uncovered my long-lost practice chanter and goose.
Cheers!
Tony

Tony ,
Welcome to Indiana , from Seymour , IN !
You should have no problem being kilted here . I will give you a few examples .
Just a few minutes north of you in Indy is the Indianapolis Scottish Society , they have a Scottish Festival and Highland Games in the fall . Indy is also home of the Indy 500 Gordon Pipers .
Just 15 to 20 miles south of you in Columbus , IN , they also have a Scottish Festival and Highland Games in the fall . There is also a pipe band that started there , Southern Indiana Pipes and Drums .
Also , just a few miles southwest of you in Trafalgar , IN , ( 10 to 15 miles ) is an apple orchard known as Apple Works and they too have a Scottish Festival in the fall at their orchard / country store . Its a smaller event , but generally has a pipe band and some Scottish folk groups .
Given that you are in Fanklin , IN ( just outside of Indy ) you are about an hour and a half from Cincinnatti , OH which also has Scottish events and to your south about one to two hours from Kentucky where there are several Scottish events in Louisville and Glasgow , KY . If you wish to venture about three hours northeast , Fort Wayne , IN they also have an annual Scottish Festival and Highland Games .
Several of these above mentioned events have been going on for over 20 years . I have provided a few links below .

Once again , I don't think being kilted in this area will be a problem , I have never encountered any issues . Welcome to Central Indiana !
Best Regards , Mike

Greetings from Virginia, sorry can't help with the knowing people in Indiana part, but I understand about the trying to lose weight and trying to be kilted in a smaller town. From the earlier posts it looks like you will have some opportunities to be around other kilted folks. Congrats on the ongoing weight loss.
