Hello everyone!

I live in the fine town of Waynesville NC. I've been intrested in kilts for about a year now. Funny story on how I got started. My youth pastor, which is a amazing guy, got married recently and being of Scottish decent had a Scottish wedding. I heard him talking about wearing a kilt in his wedding quite awhile back and after researching kilts and buying a Sportkilt I'm hooked on kilting!
I normally wear my kilt anywhere I would wear a pair of jeans, trips to the store, hiking and even to church ( our church is very laid back dressingwise folks with jeans full of holes are a normal site) But I've been thinking seriously about buying a Stillwater Heavy weight kilt. I'm sure many of you have purchased kilts from SWK, in general how do you like them? Do they dress up easily? If i did get one I think it would be in Black Watch, and I would reserve it for nicer events.

I can't comment on SWKs as I don't own one, but I will offer this: there are an awful lot of Black Watch kilts around. If you have a clan affiliation, would it be an option to get a kilt in the clan's tartan? There is a Carolina tartan, which several of us here own, which is a very handsome pattern. I'm not trying to steer you away from the BW if that's what you want, but please don't think it's the only option. And make sure to post pictures when the kilt arrives.

First, in case I missed it:

I could not offer any information about the Heavy SWKs, but I do own two of the standards. For the price, they are good kilts, and they do gussy up well. Outside of kilters, no one is going to know that they are not hand sewn, expensive kilts. I have a few pictures of SWKs in my profile, but after checking, they aren't listed. I will have to remember that in the future. All the Black Watch pictures the same Standard SWK. The only problem with the Standard and cheaper kilts, is that they are heat traps.

One of my Leathernecks is a Sportkilt, and that is the choice for activities in the summer. However, since you own one, I am not telling you anything new. Good luck with your search.

Welcome from the highlands of Central Massachusetts! I have seen one SWK synthetic up close and I think it is GREAT. Also take a look, if you are looking at Black Watch, at What Price Glory - http://onlinemilitaria.net/ - they have really nice repro military. I have the Gordon Highlander and am supremely satisfied with it.

Hello and a warm Celtic from the Lowlands of Boston, Massachusetts.

The Heavyweight kilts of Stillwater are good and at a reasonable price point with transmolecular delivery standard.

I have many kilts, and the Stillwater Irish national (standard) is a great pub kilt, with my Stillwater Heavy in Black Watch as a nice cool weather option. I tend to live in my USA Kilts semi-traditional, and casuals as they are made to measure and fir a little better than the Stillwaters, which are off the peg.

Enjoy being kilted. I wear a kilt on every day that ends in "y".

Thanks everyone! Thw Stillwater Kilts do look very handsome, and being knife pleated I'm sure they have more swing than my Sport Kilt.

piperdbh, I'm certainly not set on BW as my tartan, and I highly apreciate your input. There are A LOT of BW kilts out there. I am a Blanton, originally my family comes from the Charlotte area. After some basic research I believe Blanton is a corruption of the Scottish Ballintine. Not sure what tartan they would be in though.
