Introduction from a (probably rather rare kind of) newbie

    Hello!

wee yin here - Willing to bet there aren't many late-20s lassies on here with a keen interest on kilts but, I'm all for breaking the stereotypes. Because why shouldn't women wear awesome kilts too?

I'm born and raised on the east coast of Scotland and have lived in Edinburgh for the past decade now. Lovely city, wouldn't change it for the world.

I came across this forum whilst browsing for new kilt ideas. I'm what is probably considered a casual kilt owner - my collection isn't huge. I'd love to own more but they tend to be expensive (especially custom made for a 5'3 lass) and my sewing skills are abysmal so making my own kilts is sadly out of the equation.

However I was recently in the market for a new kilt due to a Sikh/Scottish wedding I'm attending in October. My surname is HAY so our clan tartan is on the red side of things and I was given specific instructions by the bride that guests are not permitted to wear red or white or gold as the bride gets dibs on them. So I was browsing for ideas of a more muted nature. Perhaps something that could also be worn casually day to day.
There's something about seeing locals walking around in kilts with a t-shirt or chunky knit jumper. I would love to be part of that. And hopping on here I found some wonderful inspiration for the rustic, earthy, casual look.

In the end I bit the bullet and bought a 5 yard 13oz custom kilt in Stewart Hunting Weathered. This is the picture that sold it to me. It was the exact look I wanted.

Anyway, if folks are interested I'm happy to post more about this Scottish/Sikh wedding crossover as and when it happens. I've never been to anything like it before. The ceremony is in a temple and the reception is a ceilidh. The bride and her family are Scottish and the groom and his relations are Sikh.

I also love compiling "looks" and certain "aesthetics" together for inspiration. I'm super into graphic design and fashion so happy to offer some inspiration advice.

Anyway, thanks for reading my ramble!
