Just joined. Wearing kilt more often.

My name is David. First-time posting. Got my first kilt, a wool Black Watch, in the spring. I've been to three Scottish events and have another coming up the weekend after Labor Day. About two weeks ago my wife and I were going to a picnic in the park with a club to which we belong. I decided to wear my kilt. My wife, who thinks the kilt looks great on me, shook her head and said, "Whatever." She figured it to be a bit eccentric of me to wear my kilt without having a Celtic event to attend. Other than a few folks asking me if I was a piper, most noticed the kilt without feeling a need to comment on it. I loved that. I thought this could become just another choice of apparel in my closet. So I wore it again two days ago, this time to a concert in the park. One gentleman introduced himself to discuss my tartan and to tell me about his, which he wasn't wearing at the time. I figured if I'm going to be wearing a kilt more often, I need a second one. I've sent away to Stillwater Kilts for a washable Black Stewart in order that I don't beat up my good wool kilt. It should be arriving any day now. I am really liking this. Even my grown children are getting used to seeing me in a kilt. They think their papa is weird, but harmless.

from Peyton, Colorado. In your profile, you can put where your from, but I'll ask now. Where is home? Congrats on feeling more comfortable kilted. I'm at about the same place you are in kilted wear. If any of your children are boys, you should get them a kilt, too!

Nice to hear you had a positive response to wearing the kilt. We all have many stories to share in the comments of others. Next time someone asks if you play the pipes try "Yes, but I left them at home." or just say I left them at home or I am learning and don't play well enough to play in public.

Welcome from southern California! A word to the wise; Jerry at Stillwater has almost instant magical delivery, so you'll probably get it Monday , Tuesday at the very latest. It's a great company. We often feel his kilts arrive before we even order them

Where am I from? Kevin, I thought my profile said I live in western Pennsylvania, a very conservative place to be from. I'll have to check my profile. Maybe it doesn't say. The grown children are ladies, but I could guess I could get kilts for the two of three grandkids who are boys, ages one and a half and six.

Holy crap, Stan, you were right. Stillwater IS magical. I ordered my kilt late Wednesday and it arrived today, Saturday morning. Ordering from a company in Minneapolis and having it arrive in Pennsylvania in such a short time is nothing short of amazing. And the quality? I love it. I'm going to order a matching tam from Kilmart.
